Activity

Our 6-mile walk takes in the countryside around Alresford New and Old Town. Walk covers the picturesque Hampshire countryside with river paths and views from high ground. We will travel on the Mid Hants Steam Railway "The Watercress Line". The railway has great views along the edge of the South Downs National Park in Hampshire. Opened in 1865, the railway was soon nicknamed for its early role in transporting watercress to the markets in London and beyond. We will alight at the historic town of Alresford. It has a charming Georgian town centre with independent shops, picturesque river walks and the medieval Fulling Mill. This weekend features the vintage 40s to 70s festival on the railway. Each of the four stations has period displays, military re-enactments and period vehicle displays. As you step off the train at each station you will be stepping back in time, with each station celebrating a different decade. Alresford: 1960s, Ropley: 1940s, Medstead: 1950s, Alton: 1970s. Musical acts at each station plus the chance to explore the loco sheds.
